Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} BY11-P17.6.20. X3701. PETROL TANK. RE FILTER GAUZE MATERIAL. ------------------------ Referring to the recently standardised material, namely, Monel metal specially woven with strong longitudinal and closely woven light cross wires, which has been adopted with the object of overcoming the corrosion effects of petrol and benzol upon the standard copper or phosphor bronze gauze, the position at the moment is, that the whole of the copper gauze is in for the first 2000 chassis of the post war program, and before making any decision as to where we should bring in the new material I would like to have your views on the situation. If, of course, the reliability of the car is seriously affected by our present material becoming corroded then it would appear that we should bring it in at an early date and sell our present stock of material, even at a considerable loss.
