W. R.{Sir Henry Royce} PUTTERILL. 22, LLOYD SQUARE, 'Phone: Clerkenwell 4390. CLERKENWELL, W.C. 1. To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}, 137 X.J. 30 - 11 - 30. On Saturday morning I replaced both front dampers reset to 100 LBS each way O.K. On examination of the side tube the front end was found to be O.K. to limits & the rear end set up a little more than called for. This I replaced as before on the car. I then had the front pivots dismantled & discovered excessive end play; this amounted to .041" on the near side & .048" on the off side. I am reducing these clearances with packing pieces .035" & .040" respectively. The correct clearance is .005" to .015". The cross tube & track toe-in have not as yet been checked by me.
