X.3398 EFC. WA.{Mr Wallis} BY9-P19.6.23. X. 3398 . BATTERIES. In accordance with our decision I wrote to Messrs. Peto & Radford in regard to the question of whether they consider a larger battery than the one they were using was necessary. I am surprised they have replied that they consider the present size of battery is altogether satisfactory and they do not propose to make any further suggestions in regard to increasing battery capacity. Their letter is distinctly interesting and I am attaching a copy of same herewith accordingly. You will note that Mr Minchin proposes to come to Derby in the near future, and I therefore wrote to him stating that we would be pleased to see him and to have his views personally on the subject. It seems to me now that the right way to deal with the battery question is to have an interview with Mr Minchin just to obtain all the information we can from him and then put a proposal to the Exide Company that we are prepared to let them produce a battery to certain dimensions. The dimensions and capacity would be those which are already fixed by the P. & R.{Sir Henry Royce} If the Exide Company do not think the increase is sufficient and in view of that would not propose to make any special move, then, of course, if they finally lose our business they have no one to blame but themselves. I think the proposal outlined is a reasonable one and should be capable of being put into practice. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Ry | ||
