Dear Sirs.,

We are in receipt of yours of the 13th inst., BYS.P13623 re batteries for 40/50 chassis.

We note that you appreciate that at one time we urged the need for a larger battery. This is so, but it was [text struck through] some time ago when we were talking about the type of battery that you had been using and you were considering the one we were putting forward, which was larger. It was in trying to get you to agree to this that we were urging the stronger B.D. type which was a little larger.

We were very pleased when you ultimately agreed to this and the batteries we are now supplying to you for the 40/50 car are very much more robust and are of slightly larger capacity than the type you used in the past.

We pointed out that ours would last longer because of the hard paste and because of the various other improvements which we detailed at the time, and we think that you will find in practice that they do give good service.

The other type of battery that you are referring to has thinner plates, less acid room, high capacity soft paste, and doubtless you have found that it would be better to have something a bit more durable (which involves a small increase in size).

You will realise that it would be the easiest course for us to say that we should like to see a larger battery fitted. It means more money, less liability of the battery to go wrong, and probably more prestige to the battery maker, (at the expense of the chassis performance) If these advantage apply to one size larger they would also apply to two sizes larger etc, etc, but a line has to be drawn somewhere and taking everything into consideration we have confidence ourselves in the batteries that you are now buying from us.

contd.
