SCHEME FOR PREVENTING OIL GOING DOWN VALVE STEMS

Further to Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Swdl. {Len H. Swindell} 7/MH. {M. Huckerby} 15.5.39.

In view of the fact that Neoprene sealing washers are difficult to fit and may deteriorate in use, we have tried out an alternative in the form of a dome shaped, soft aluminium washer .022" thick. This washer is pressed flat when fitted into position, using modified top spring washer to E.CD.846.

A set of these washers have been run 3000 miles on 27.G.VI. They form an effective oil seal, and show no sign of coming loose.

They are very easily fitted, and do not present any difficulty when dismantling.

Will By {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /NS {Norman Scott} please issue a detail drawing of this washer, so that further sets may be fitted on Experimental cars and also be used in cases of complaints of top over-oiling.
