To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} From Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c. to CJ. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X.3579. Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/M30.6.22. RE. AUTOVAC TANK VALVE X.3597. Further to Mr. Royce's remarks in his R1/M13.6.22., we send herewith N.sch.1307 shewing a design of spring to give much less load on the valve seat, and with a considerably reduced rating. We wish to have a good big drop of the knob when the valve closes, so that the operator will know when he has got the valve held open or closed. The spring shewn is in Silicon Bronze, but if necessary a similar spring of thinner gauge and more coils, and hence less rate, could be made of steel wire electroplated.
