Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards}6/AP. May 20th 1937 Coventry Climax Engines Ltd., Friar's Road, COVENTRY For the attention of Mr.Lee. Dear Sirs, Referring to your recent visit to our Works here in Derby, you will doubtless recall that we were interested in the question of cost of manufacture of the O.H.I. type of engine as compared with the O.H.V. type. We should very much like to get some more detailed information as to this point and we wondered if you would be willing to help us by giving us some idea of the relative costs of casting and machining, together, if possible, with a comparison of the weights of the various components of the unit. A further point of interest which has cropped up is the subject of cylinder bore wear and oil consumption, and we should like to know how these figures work out under service conditions, and whether or not you consider that the exhaust valve position has any adverse effect. Trusting that if, in return, we can assist you in any way you will not hesitate to call on us. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
