strength of the present material.

3. We have also attempted to obtain the clips in thicker material, but made from nickel silver. Here again we have met with difficulty, as the makers state that the gauge they have used is the stiffest gauge from which they could, in their opinion, satisfactorily produce the clips of this design.

We consider that the right way to deal with Mr.Sydney's car is to select a set of jointings which are definitely tight and fit same with a selected set of clips from our present stock, when we believe the trouble will disappear.

In regard to the suggestion that we should fit an aero engine clip, the only aero engine clips that we are using are either of the same type as the present, but made in steel, which is very liable to rust, or of a type made up from a flat band, with holes in it, which is wrapped round the pipe and screwed up by a screwed connection. This type is just as likely to cause a pucker as our present type, whilst of course I cannot instruct parts which are not standard for use on the car, even if one knew them to be slightly better. The remedy in that case would be to standardize the improved clip and fit it as standard.

We are obtaining different types of clips for Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to try out, with the object of his testing same over long distances, to see whether we can, with advantage, replace our present type.
