1934 BUICK SERIES 40 S.U.P. SPECIFICATIONS Page 9 ENGINE (CONT'D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}) ELECTRICAL UNITS (CONT'D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}) IGNITION SWITCH -Combination ignition switch and steering lock, integral with steering post bracket. Steering can be locked when ignition is in off position only. Ignition switch works separately until lock is thrown. HORNS - One Delco Remy, Vibrator type, mounted on top of engine. WIRING - Single wire system, grounded return. Fuse protection. LAMPS - Asymmetrical passing and tilting-ray headlamps. Body finished in Duco to match sheet metal, with chrome rim. Left headlamp throws the beam to the right and the right headlamp throws the beam to the left. The driving and passing beams are controlled by a foot control switch mounted on the toe board. When the light switch on the instrument panel is pulled all the way out, or in country driving position, the foot control changes from the driving beam to the passing beam and vice versa. When the light switch is pulled out to the second position for city driving, the foot switch is inoperative and only the lower or city beams are obtained. The parking lights are incorporated in the headlamps and are lighted by pulling the light switch out to the first position. On R.H.D., and on L.H.D. where the rule of the road is to the left, special light switches will be supplied (when specified on L.H.D. orders) which eliminate the country passing beam. In these cases, headlamp beams will also cross and can be tilted up or down by means of the foot control switch. Pre-focussed headlamp bulbs with a locating collar on the base, which eliminates the effect of manufacturing variations in previous type bulbs and insures a fixed location of the filament with relation to the reflector. 21 - 32 c.p. bulbs. One combination stop and tail lamp mounted on left rear fender CLUTCH AND TRANSMISSION CLUTCH - Manually operated, dry disc type actuated by nine springs, fully enclosed in ventilated housing. Single spring-loaded plate 9-3/8" (.238 m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore}) in diameter, faced on both sides. Release bearing graphite composition and self-lubricating. Clutch pedal adjustable for toe board clearance. Frictional area 79.13 sq. ins. (510 sq. cm.). The clutch throwout is accomplished by an auxiliary shaft which is independent of engine movement permitted by the rubber engine mountings. This eliminates engine movement being transferred to clutch throwout yoke and chattering of clutch when engaged. Issued:-May 10, 1934. | ||
