X.4228. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E2/M25.4.22. GOSHAWK 11. CARBURETTER. X.4228. With reference to report E2/M13.4.22. Would you kindly note that the figures for the Vacuum in the air valve chamber should have read as follows:- .953 lbs. per sq.in.vacuum - (same as 40/50) .794 " " " " .635 " " " " With regard to the diameter of the lower portion of the air valve on Goshawk 11. this is 1.05 at present, and is more than large enough for its job on the basis of being pro rata with the 40/50 carburetter but reduced in the proportion of 85 to 55 HP., one inch diameter would satisfy this condition. We have sent a drawing of an air valve - LeC.1557 - with 1.187 diameter lower portion for the Goshawk, in accordance with your instructions to enlarge the carburetter by this means.
