J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Howlett, Esq.,
Wellworthy Piston Rings Ltd.,
LYMINGTON,
Hants:

Dear Howlett,

I was away from the Works yesterday, but I understand they gave Blackith information about the piston.

We have done something like a total of 50,000 miles' running on raised crown pistons, and by the end of the month should have completed 20,000 miles on one car, where the bump on the piston raised the compression ratio from 6 to 7. We ought, therefore, to be in a position to know something about cylinder bore wear. 16,000 miles on pistons with rather smaller bumps showed no undue wear.

I am sorry to be so persistent about our 'L' Section ring, but everyone who uses it is enthusiastic, and as far as we are concerned it is the best ring we have handled for oil control without high unit pressures. Your competitors are handling it fairly freely, so if you are not already in production with it, I think it would deserve your attention.

Yours sincerely,
