- 4 - HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RH.{R. Hollingworth}1/VS.{J. Vickers}23.9.37. Valves and Fittings LOP.E.88784. LeC.5441. Solid Rocker Gear. The Valve Mechanism was satisfactory throughout, no undue wear had occurred in the Rocker Bushes and the amount of picking up between the Bushes and Rocker Shaft was normal. E.87336. Bottom Tappets were in good condition and no Push Rods were bowed. E.88782. Inlet Valves in S/SLV. E.88447. Exhaust Valves in KE.965 (Strengthened). The Inlet Valves were in good condition in all respects, except that wear had taken place on the seats. The average "pocketing" was .010 and the maximum was .014. Wear on the stems was negligible. The Exhaust Valves were in good condition, with the exception of No. 3 which was badly pitted on the seats. Average "pocketing" was .008 and the maximum .012; wear on the stems, which showed no signs of picking up, was negligible. No valves were cracked. Camshaft and Bearings LOP.E.85281. E.88760. Camshaft in S/ZN. - long toes - 210° duration. Wear was normal for the mileage. Carburetter LOP.E.88115. LeC.5355. The Stronger Throttle Spring Scheme has not caused any undue wear on the Throttle Spindle or in Bearings for same. The Float Chamber was in clean condition and free from foreign matter. One of the four screws holding the Butterfly Throttle to the Spindle was very loose and partially unscrewed. We suggest these screws should be locked. Otherwise the Carburetter was in good condition. Carburetter Air Silencer LOP.E.88088. with Extra Rivets at Front End and no Rear Stay. This scheme appears to have been effective, as no continued. | ||
