12-EX EAC. 8. CHASSIS. X.7940 X.7770

In connection with the visit of this chassis a number of points were raised, as follows :-

(1) MIXTURE CARBURETTER CONTROL.
The flanges for this control fitting instead of being dead square should be made the same shape as the switchbox flange. It will then make a nicer looking fitting, and be in harmony with the switchbox. It will also enable the hole in the instrument board to be increased in dia. The marking on this flange should be altered. The words 'starting carburetter' should appear on the upperportion, and the words 'on' and 'off' should be printed on the flange in the correct angular positions for the lever.

(2) BATTERY. X.4617 X.7535
There should be more room above the plates in the battery from the top of the liquid to the vent plugs. When the battery is topped up to the correct height there is very little latitude to prevent the plugs being flooded by the bumping of the car on the road.

(3) CARBURETTER.
The carburetter should be of the all aluminium type, which we understood was standardised.

(4) WATER PIPES.
It is proposed to use cast aluminium water pipes where-ever possible. The cast fittings at present on the pipe from the pump to the cyl. blocks look rather heavy. This will be a point for the Higher Phantom engine.

(5) VALVE GEAR.
Half of the valve ROCKERS on 12-EX had small holes above the push rod seating. These are considered undesirable as they let the oil away from the pressure surface. Mr. Royce stated that they need not be drilled right through.

(6) AUTOVAC.
The cover for the autovac appears to bea very heavy piece and it is suggested that this could be an alum. die casting.
