X1729a Hotel de France, Chateauroux. Indre. France. 17th December 1934. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} CADILLAC. Re your memo re springing of this car. We have made a special point of trying the car over two bumps on a road which are twice as bad as the bump on the Wellington Road. When going over these bumps at 40 MPH., the rear passenger is lifted off the seat, but not anywhere near the roof.. On coming down however, you receive a fearful bump. It really goes down solid. At 30 MPH. it takes the bumps without any discomfort, either up or down. The 25 HP. car does not lift the rear passenger so much, and it checks the downward bump, the buffers just being touched. On the Vatan main road which we always take as an example of rear riding over two medium ridges, the rear passenger feels no discomfort at a speed of 70 MPH. You are not moved off the seat. These tests are with the maximum damping. Re Ignition tests. We are carrying out the test this afternoon. With regard to the engine dropping at the front, it would be of little value to show Leslie. We have sent you full details of the trouble. I have not heard as yet from Paris whether they have received the cylinder head. G.W.H. | ||
