| To DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} [Handwritten]: X8210 X8774 X8210 [Struck through] [Typed]: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/LG5.11.27. In order to get the back of the sports car down, we have been running 10-EX with half an inch off the buffer. With this set up the axle will only touch the buffers on very rare occasions because the extra half inch gives a very considerable increase in poundage with the very stiff springs fitted. We much prefer this to thicker buffer which is continually being struck and will always give a jar to the passengers. Under the circumstances we think the clearances shewn on N. schs. 2497 and 2494 will be rather close - we are suggesting putting ½" all round.
