X.4305 - 40/50 Chassis - Exhaust heated Throttle &
X.4390 Starting Carburetter.

In connection with the LeC.designs sent through to Derby for the above, we should like to draw your attention to the following points:-

Point No.1. There should be no hot water e jacket on the throats.

Point No.2. The outlet pipe from the exhaust jacket on the throttle shewn on LeC.1501 should be as specified on LeC.1500. The set-out position of this pipe will clear the control rod connection to throttle.

Point No.3. No hot air is provided with these schemes for the low speeds jet but the elbow connection is retained with a short pipe slightly bell-mouthed for silencing purposes and to carry any popping back clear of the float chamber.

Point No.4. The butterfly valve in the exhaust pipe should be made in cast iron and for this purpose the valve will have to have a boss running through the middle of it through which will be threaded a stainless steel spindle secured by taper pin or pins. It seems hardly necessary to make the spindle taper fit in the valve.

Point No.5. The butterfly valve previously mentioned in the exhaust down-take pipe can be raised slightly if necessary to make a better job of clearing the undersheet or if there is room it could be dropped altogether below the undersheet so as to be in the air draft underneath the car, and thus be in a cooler position.
