We have arranged in order to overcome temporarily the difficulty of over-oiling without creating possibilities of further trouble to replace the centre ring i.e. the lower compression ring by the 'L' shape form of ring E.61123, and these rings should be produced by turning the necessary amount from the inside of the ring as indicated on the drawing. This is the method by which the Experimental Department produce their rings, and it will avoid us having to go to the makers to indicate we have trouble. In this connection also it is well to remember that the using of this ring is merely temporary /a expedient, and a piston is being tested with three compression rings with stops and one scraper ring following the scheme used on the 20/25, but it is necessary to test this form of piston with its stops and rings before we can standardise it. We would like Sft{Mr Swift}/Mr.Goodall to check a number of the rings in the usual apparatus, and give us the wall pressure which we will add to the drawing. BM BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
