γ 1280 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.7/MH.{M. Huckerby} 5th. February 1938. Messrs. John Marston Ltd., Wolverhampton. For the attention of Mr.Dunn. Dear Sirs, Referring to our telephone conversation recently about the question of dip-soldering bottom tanks to the Phantom III matrices which we have in stock, we have decided that it is not worth while doing this on these blocks in view of the trouble and transport expense involved. These blocks are now a good fit to the tank so that it should be possible to hand solder them to the latter without serious risk of getting solder inside. We shall require you to commence dip-soldering the tanks to the blocks on future new blocks. With regard to the Wraith matrix to which you dip-soldered a tank while the writer was at your works, this has been built up into a radiator and pressure tested and showed leaks on one extreme edge strip to which the side plate is sweated, i.e. the passage between the edge strip and the side plate had not been sealed up at the bottom end so that water was able to get into it. The side strip must have been perforated in some manner allowing leakage. This is serious, of course, and we should like to have your remarks on the question of preventing recurrence of this trouble. Attached rough sketch indicates exactly what is meant. Enclosed is a "List of Parts" for the Bentley III Radiator for which you are preparing quotations, together with all detail drawings which you have not already received. The complete set of drawings are up-to-date except in one or two details such as sizes of rivets etc. They will however, serve for estimating. Will you please note that these remain our property and must be returned when the estimate is completed, in order that | ||
