| A-2 (2) E.3/HP.14.9.35. Valves with undrilled stems, the inlet valve otherwise unaltered, but the exhaust valve preferably with larger diameter stem. Compare valves for 20/25 large bore. Valve gear as SpectreCodename for Phantom III 2 and LeC.4427 with 8 to 1 eccentrics. Oil filtration scheme same as SpectreCodename for Phantom III 2 experimental chassis, but instruct a gauze element for the small filter dealing with the valve gear oil. This filter to be sent out to SpectreCodename for Phantom III in France if not ready in time. Try also alternative main filter in gauze. Oil pump to be the larger size as on SpectreCodename for Phantom III II. Pistons. - Fully split as on SpectreCodename for Phantom III II with heavier ribbed crown as instructed. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} will supply the increase of weight. over the Bentley non ribbed pattern. Connecting rods of the strap type as No.2. but with latest lubrication scheme with central circumferential groove and one cross groove. Crankshaft bearings. - Latest groove scheme for lubrication and with drilled out bearing dowels to reduce restriction. JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} will investigate the possibility of further feed holes each side of dowel. Crankshaft oil holes to remain as now subject to any improvement that may result from the No.1. engine experiment. Rear main bearing oil seal to LeC. 4672. Carburetters of the reversed throttle type as SpectreCodename for Phantom III II but with external air balance connected to drain pipes. Air silencer and breather connections as SpectreCodename for Phantom III II, but Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} to confirm. Engine mounting as SpectreCodename for Phantom III II but with friction dampers added, to LeC. 4595. Exhaust manifold. Await test of SpectreCodename for Phantom III II. | ||
