X300a (.3) 1-1 PRELIMINARY DRAFT. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} E.3/HP.14.9.35. c. By.{R.W. Coverley - Production Engineer} ~~Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hdy.{William Hardy} JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}~~ Final Specification of SpectreCodename for Phantom III for the 3rd SpectreCodename for Phantom III Chassis to go to France. A meeting of Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hdy.{William Hardy} Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner} Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} was held on the 9th inst. to consider the final specification of SpectreCodename for Phantom III chassis, to which specification the third test chassis for France will be erected. This is set out as follows, and is based on the second chassis to leave for France, any departures from which are indicated. Engine. As second chassis, white metal big-end and main bearings, larger slipper wheel, modified oil system. Fescolized valve tappets, strongest push rods, improved water ways, raised ignition coils. Also as SpectreCodename for Phantom III 2 latest carburetter scheme with reversed throttles which is understood to require some development to bring the slow running up to present standard. The third chassis should in addition have some scheme for external air balance of carburetters to avoid evaporated fuel effect in air silencer. Third chassis should have the present camshaft to EX.18044 which has 12° overlap and 116° between cams with cam forms - LeC.4120 modified with short toes to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1838. E/Psn has already examined this modification to the toes and agrees that it is satisfactory. It should be mentioned that if the fescolized tappets do give any trouble there is an alternative cam clearance scheme involving a small number of changes only, which should shortly be on test, but in the meantime the fescolized tappet has operated successfully uptodate, and is, therefore, specified. The valve springs should be as SpectreCodename for Phantom III 2, of the double taper type - inner E.86384, outer Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/1827 with corrected bottom coil. | ||
