B.V. PROPELLOR SHAFT.

We have to report a failure at about 5000 miles on 9.B.V. of the prop. shaft centre bearing. It had run almost dry with consequent scuffing of the cage.

We have obtained some New Departure Seal bearings for test. They will not need the oil retaining thread now provided nor the tips to prevent ingress of dirt.

In addition to fitting these on 2.B.50 and 3.B.50 we will run on a rig an N.D. bearing in series with the R.R. assembly to determine the relative life.

We think it would also be worth while to design and have ready an enlarged R.R. scheme with a much bigger grease capacity.
