re Visit to the High Voltage Research Laboratories of Metropolitan Vickers.

I visited the above laboratories on the 28th. June for the purpose of examining their equipment and to discuss apparatus required by them for carrying out certain ignition investigation.

On a recent visit by By/Mr.Bower, it was suggested that Metropolitan Vickers should investigate certain ignition problems, and a tentative programme was drawn up.

This comprised of the following :-

(1) Recording of voltage oscillograms of coil on open circuit.

(2) Measurement of the voltage with irradiated sphere gap.

(3) Oscillographic observations of the effects of :-
(a) Added capacitance up to a value representing that of a spark gap and distributor head.
(b) Added parallel resistance of values to be specified by R.R.
(c) Addition of chopping gap.
(d) Recording of current oscillograms.

(4) The effects of enclosing the H.T. wires in metal tubes.

I discussed High Voltage problems with their expert, Mr. Perry, and also discussed ignition phenomena, as experienced on the Automobile, with their oscillograph expert, Mr. Durben.
