328 Experimental Department 26th November 1936. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}23/AP. F.O.Hickling Esq., Messrs Ransome & Marles Ltd., NEWARK-ON-TRENT Dear Hickling, Can you give us a bearing to replace one at present in our gearbox with a very much higher capacity.? The bearing in question is the one at the rear end of the 3rd. motion shaft, size as on the drawing I sent you the other day, dimensions 3¼" outside diameter, 1⅛" inside dia-meter and ¾" wide with 10 balls .437 diameter. We should like this bearing to be able to withstand 3000 lbs. thrust load and 3000 lbs. journal load for 20 hours. The present bearing failed after about 7 hours. Will you please let us know whether you can improve the situation in the available space. When are you going to answer some of my previous letters.? Yours sincerely, | ||
