Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Robotham. Further to our letter of the 16th inst., in connection with the high compression piston, the design of which we wish to test out in our Leyland lorry, it will be remembered that on the 16th we enclosed a rough sketch showing details of the piston and combustion space, but believe that on the sketch the stroke of the engine was shown as 5 1/2". This information was found to be incorrect, having been taken from a book in which apparently there was a mis-print; The actual stroke is 5" - Bore 3 1/2" and the compression ratio as given us by the Designer is stated to be 5.7 : 1. As we are anxious to get on with this we wondered if you could give us the sizes of the lozenge shaped projection which you would suggest should be added on to the piston head. Awaiting your reply with interest, Yours faithfully, for WELLWORTHY PISTON RINGS LIMITED. p.p. F G Blackith M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Technical Department. | ||
