Re: 29-OL This car has now done a tour of 7,250 kms.. through Germany, Czecho Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France and, speaking generally, has functioned excellently with one serious exception - the cooling. It is again required for urgent business before October the 4th and will be required by the coachbuilders for 2 days prior to this time. In the interval, attention is required to the following points:- 1. The engine is pre-igniting and sometimes runs on after the ignition has been switched off. This has arisen suddenly during the last 2 days running. 2. The engine gears are too noisy for demonstration work. 3. One or more of the joints of exhaust manifold are blowing. 4. Slow running is very poor and irregular. This has always been the case and no adjustment of carburetter has made any improvement. During the course of the trip it has been necessary to use rather poor petrol most of the time, which may have contributed to this, but even with good petrol it is not good. 5. Clutch hisses and whistles on disengaging and is rough in engaging causing clanking in the gear box or transmission. 6. Clutch stop is quite inoperative when really hot. 7. Gear box side shaft is very poor, noisy and irregular. This has developed worse and altogether spoils the impression which can be given of quiet slow running with the car standing. 8. There is too much play somewhere in the transmission or the gear box; this causes bad clanking and bucketing at times in getting underway which is accentuated by poor slow running of the engine. 9. There is a bad and under certain conditions, a very loud hum from one portion of the mechanism, possibly the back axle, which reaches a peak at between 60 and 80 kms. | ||
