per hour. This is only noticeable when driving and not when the car is running free. It is much more noticeable with the hood up, but it will not be possible for Mr. to test this as the hood has been removed for repair.

10. Springing. The car appears to sit down on the nearside rear spring and always bumps first on this corner. It is possible that this spring may be broken, but from the test report it appears that it is 106 lbs lighter than the rear offside spring and this result may be entirely due to this. It is considered that the offside spring should be changed over to the nearside and a new offside spring, not more than 30 lbs heavier than the present one, should be fitted on the offside.

11. All brakes require examination. On the whole these have behaved perfectly, but there has been some slight squeaking occasionally but not persistent. This has occurred after very dusty or very wet running and has passed away in an hour or so after these conditions have ceased.

12. Springs and shackles squeak. The shackles of both the front and rear springs have squeaked persistently. Oiling in the ordinary way does not effect any cure. Water thrown over the shackles will effect a cure for about 20 minutes. We have tried paraffin, which will keep them quiet for the whole of a long day's running, but not more. The trouble seems to arise between the sides of the shackle plates and the springs or washers.

13. Cooling is very poor indeed and if this car in its present condition is a fair sample of a New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I it must be considered most unsatisfactory. Climbing the Stelvio we lost over 2 gallons of water and on the run from Paris to Geneva where the air temperature was 23° c. could not keep the engine cooler than 88°c., with bonnet shutters closed.
