-2- HB{C. E. Harcombe}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}7/KW.30.6.34. With this small silencer fitted, the suction noise has been reduced to a very satisfactory degree without affecting the performance of the engine. The loss reported on the test bed was 1.8 B.H.P. and the road performance test taken on Ticknall Hill clocked 1 sec. longer in 66 secs. taken to climb the hill. The difference in speed recorded at the finish is not affected to any marked degree. It has been found from the tests that the wire wool gauze spread over as large an area as possible makes for the best result. As an alternative to the small silencer, we should like to take the air through gauze, fixed round the carburetter barrel, schemed in some way to be easily detachable for cleaning or changing purposes. We shall therefore continue experiments in this direction. HB{C. E. Harcombe}/F.Dodd. | ||
