It occurs to me that possibly the attitude adopted by Messrs North & Sons. Ltd. is the result of the fact that we have asked them to make at their expense a number of somewhat expensive modifications. It is agreed that the last modification, which was a very expensive matter indeed, we have paid for, but there have been a number of cases where Messrs Norths have footed the bill.

There is no question, so far as this Company is concerned, about bearing responsibility to the owner. We issue a three years guarantee, and we shall have to stand by it, even if Messrs Norths limit their guarantee to twelve months only.

The exact dimensions of our requirements may have resulted in Messrs Norths finding that the prices quoted are too close for profit, and that they are mentioning this at this juncture in order to limit their liabilities in the future.

If this is so, one would consider their attitude a reasonable one under the circumstances, but it could of course be met in another way by seeing that they obtain sufficient for their product to justify them extending the guarantee for two years.

From my point of view it is most important the quality of the job should be maintained beyond all question, and from that point of view the three years guarantee is a valuable factor in regard to maintaining quality.
