WATFORD MAGNETOS.

Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 5/NJ28.4.26.

We thank you for your note conveying to us the information received from Messrs. North & Son Ltd., respecting the period for which they guarantee their Magnetos.

It is a matter of opinion as to whether or not 12 months is a long enough period to be covered by the Makers' responsibility in the matter of defects which may develop in a Magneto.

We do consider, however, that such a condition as 12 months from the date of delivery from their Works is altogether unreasonable. Many new chassis stand at Coachbuilders for periods running into months before they are actually put into commission by a private owner, and consequently a big part of the guarantee period has expired before the Magneto is called upon to do it's normal work.

The case of stock Magnetos for service replacements is much worse, as we might and in fact do on occasions carry in stock for more than 12 months new Magnetos, and it follows therefore, that should one of these Magnetos develop defects shortly after being sold to a customer, defects for which in other circumstances the Makers would be held responsible, we should have no claim whatever against Messrs. North & Sons in the matter.

We feel justified in putting forward our views as we have to take our share in the trouble and subsequent negotiations whenever a Magneto fails, whether it be one belonging to a new car or one which has been sold separately, and we trust you will agree with us that efforts should be made with Messrs. North & Sons to obtain some modification of the guaranty conditions they appear to have laid down.
