Cox - Advertising Manager}4/KW.12.4.35. The synchromesh second speed which is now standardised on the Phantom is a good example of the fact that synchromesh on the lower gears is in no way so impressive as it is on top and third. On the lower gears the synchromesh cones have more work to do and the oil drag in the box is much greater. There is no doubt that these difficulties are much less with a small gearbox, but on the Phantom we are continually up against the problem of the size of the car.
