re COMPLAINTS OF SECOND GEAR
JUMPING OUT ON PHANTOM II CARS.
----------------------------

Confirming my conversation with you this morning, following upon a telephone message from C., in connection with the above, we wish to draw your attention to the fact that we have five complaints of second gear jumping out on the following cars:-

95-MW. Puricelli.
124-SK. Bristowe.
63-TA. Mrs. Corrigan.
40-PY. Lord Inchcape.
31-TA. Coker.

All these cars are of the type with silent second gear but not synchromesh second, i.e., prior to 81 in T. series.

The Works inform us that their only method of treatment is to fit new gears but this does not guarantee a cure. For instance, the gears were changed on Lord Inchcape's car but the trouble still persists.

As several of these cars are at present in Switzerland or Italy it is most difficult to change the gears. As an alternative, we understand that you are arranging to instruct a special plunger spring for the selector mechanism, as this is fairly easy to fit and it may prevent the gear jumping out.

We will accordingly make arrangements to send a man to Switzerland and Italy to fit this special spring.
