GOSHAWK 11. STEERING LEVERS. X4263 (struck through) X4719 (handwritten)

We thank you for your By6/P3.4.22.

You are quite right in supposing the specimen of F50862 which we have here is considerably undersized.

The specimen of F50863 which you have just sent us, is very much better in that respect, and except for the ex-aggerated bend, looks to us to be quite a reasonable le-ver.

We do not agree however that there is no diff-erence in the torsional effect produced by the bend be-ing set further along the stem. In effect we find that the torsional moment is increased on your lever from 1.8 to 2.3, as compared with ours.

With reference to the required position of the bend we still cannot see why it should be any more than that shewn on N.sch. 999, with the modification indicated on N.sch. 1226.

We have examined the 40/50 lever and find that the clearance for the stocking is no more than on Goshawk 11., and if anything slightly less.

We send N.sch. 1247 to illustrate this. We agree of course that there is less clearance from the spokes of the wheel but we do not think this can be helped since the 40/50 clearance is principally obtained by setting the wheel over.
