[Underlined] Further to our recent report that a complaint of the above on a new car had been made acceptable by more flexible mounting of the silencer ( per JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} at London), we have had a further serious complaint from a customer in Belgium, who refused to take delivery of his car for bad booming. Our tester Jackson in Belgium now reports that by carrying out the same scheme as we applied previously, the car was improved sufficiently so that the customer accepted same. We should be glad if you would try out and instruct and standardise some more flexible silencer mounting, which can be applied as standard and also retrospectively where necessary. We agree the complaint is aggravated by boomy type bodies. The scheme we have so far applied is to ease out the silencer supporting bolt holes and fix longer bolts with nuts spring loaded and split pinned. Without the bolts fitted, however, the cure is much more effective. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} [Handwritten in left margin:] 16.5- 38-0 57.5 | ||
