Re testing of con. rods
from our conversation yesterday I consider that we should have
6 special rods forged.
ie two in M.S
& four in N.S.
The former should be forged as usual & then quenched out from 930°C in water & tempered 500°C
(This treatment should leave it in rather unsatisfactory state owing to insufficient drawing.) Brinell about 260
Two of the N.S. should be purposely over heated in forging (say to 1100°C) & heat treated as usual for 30Z
The other two should be forged under normal conditions & then heat treated 880°C in oil & tempered as usual to Brinell of about 302.
Signed I.H.S.
This Sheet must be filed on completion of the work.
