CAR HEATERS - WRAITH.

Referring to your Hn{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders}15/AH.1.4.38, we have obtained quotations from Messrs. Clayton Dewandre for car heaters and rheostatic switches for same and these are as follows (for batches of 50) :-

S.2.C.A. Type Heater ...... £2. 0. 0.

C.C. " " ...... £2. 2. 0.

R.R.type rheostatic switch
(as usually fitted) ...... 11. 9d.

British Thermostat pattern
switch (sample herewith).... 4. 9d.

We recommend that if space permits the 'CC.' type heater should be fitted. We are running a number of the cheaper type switch and in general they seem to be satisfactory. The cheaper switch is also smaller and more compact and should be used with the 'CC.' heater until we have an alternative one available. We would like By/RD. to give us a scheme for a suitable inexpensive switch and rheostat combined.

We are experimenting with a heater made to our design by Messrs. Marstons (which includes a defroster) but have not sufficient experience yet to standardise same and in any case to do so would necessitate a tool cost of approx. £150, which could not be justified on a small order.

With regard to connections etc. for the heaters, we understand that the connecting copper piping etc. is supplied and fitted up by the coach builders - where rubber connections are used, they must be of the same quality and specification as our main water connections and should be ordered through R.R.Ltd.

The taps which have been fitted in the past with heater installations have been R.R. made and have cost 19/9d. per pair (one set). Messrs. Rotherhams list a perfectly satisfactory tap at 3/9d. (similar to the Wraith drain tap supplied by them) and we consider that in view of the complete absence of complaints of
