BY.1/G.21.4.39. AGENDA FOR CHASSIS CONFERENCE - 25TH. APRIL 1939. PHANTOM III. REMOTE CONTROL. This has been running on 35-EX. for some considerable time. The vacuum arrangement certainly makes gear change easier, and the test indicates that it would be a workable proposition to use a gear of this type operating from the steering column. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has tried 35-EX. since it has been fitted with the gear in question. SPECIAL OVERDRIVE. (a). WARNER TYPE. The Warner type box is being fitted to the second "Silver Ripple", the specification for which has been settled, and instructions are about to be issued to the Experimental Department. (b). NORMANVILLE TYPE. We think this is the proposition which is most likely to meet our requirements, as it does not include the condition in which the car is running on a free wheel. In introducing this gear, we are at the same time including remote control for the gear change. The box will, of course, be a universal box. There is a good bit of design work to be done, and it will be appreciated that the boxes are project for some time ahead. | ||
