To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Valve Tappets. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}4/E16.4.34

Thanks for Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 5/MJ.14.4.34. I am very much interested to note what you say about the hydraulic automatic tappets and next time I am at Derby I should be glad if you would make a note to show me these on the Phantom car to which you refer.

Major Halford told me that they were fitted to the Napier "Dagger" and doing very well.

He said of course the great boon on that particular engine was that the 48 valves were not particularly easy to get at and that by having them automatically adjusted hours and hours of time would be saved in service.
