Replying to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}8/E.13.4.34.

We have been in touch with Major Halford on automatic tappets both as regards the car and aero engine.

At the present time we have a set fitted to a Phantom engine which are performing which better than those on 28-EX. car in France.

The great advantage of the Halford scheme is that they can be applied to existing cars without any major alteration. We believe eventually we may Standardise the Cadillac scheme but we have been two years trying to copy it so far without success but it is probable with the information which Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has brought back from his recent visit to U.S.A. they can be made satisfactor-ily.

I have promised Major Halford to show him a car fitted with this type of tappet when we have it running on the road.

As regards aero engines the Cadillac scheme is not applicable so we still wish to retain our interests in the Halford scheme in case we wish to fit them on aircraft.
