WST Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. (Stamp: RECEIVED 26 AUG 1932) Dear Sirs, Ref. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. 4/KT. We have your letter of the 20th inst., in connection with batteries for the Bentley Sports car, which we are replying to in Mr. McKinnon's absence, as he is at present away on holiday. The battery type 6-XC 11-1M. to which you refer has been superseded by our 6-XCM 11-1M.battery, which can be supplied as desired either with or without cover and hold-down bolts. There will be no difficulty in modifying this latter battery, so as to incorporate the special R.R.long-life features, namely, thicker plates and wood and ebonite separators, but it would only be possible to fit a smaller number of plates, and this would unfortunately mean a reduction in capacity. In the 6-XCM 11 battery we supply 5 positive and 6 negative plates per cell, 3/32" thick, capacity 64 ampere hours at the 20 hour rate. Using the same container we could employ XRM 7 elements, comprising 3 positive plates 5/32" thick, and 4 negatives, the intermediate plates being 1/8" thick and the end plates 3/32", and having a capacity of 47 ampere hours at the 10 hour rate, or 52 " " " 20 " ". The estimated weight per battery complete with acid would be 80 lbs. compared with 74 lbs. for the 6-XC 11-1M. | ||
