WGC/MW 28th February 1924. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, Derby. Dear Sirs, Chronograph. In reply to your letter of the 27th instant, the 12-volt motor necessary to drive this chronograph would be quite small. We think it very inadvisable to use absorbent strip for two reasons. (1) If the paper is sufficiently rapidly absorbent the record will spread in such a way as to render it inaccurate. (2) Absorbent papers are very loose in texture and would almost certainly rapidly clog the pens. We could probably add a second roller to wind up the paper, and on this could run a roll of blotting paper, but this would necessarily add considerably to the bulk of the instrument and necessitates an extra charge of approximately £6. All particulars of your requirements have been forwarded to our London Office, and we trust that you have received a quotation ere this. Yours faithfully, for THE CAMBRIDGE AND PAUL INSTRUMENT CO.
