E.1/HP.11.3.32.

re 20/25 HP. Tank Engine Water Pump.

After seeing Colonel Hudson and his assistant yesterday we find it is possible that the rate of water flow ordinarily obtained on the 20/25 Engine may not be sufficient to get the required degree of cooling with the gilled vertical filled tube radiator in use on the tank.

We should, therefore, be glad if you would conduct a test to tell us what this water flow will be with the 3" diameter rotor water pump we have recently instructed for the 20/25 Engine for future use. This pump should be the one having the full bore volute, and not the design for the strangled volute.

As regards departures from standard it should be pointed out that we are anticipating standardizing this 3" diameter rotor in the future on the 20/25, and the only difference will be in the bore of the volute.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
