Hanbury - Head Complaints} PETROL FILTERS - 20 HP. & 40/50 HP. 18190 The petrol filters in the back tank have always had fine mesh gauze. For a considerable time we used the monel metal cloth. On the 15.4.24 a standardisation sheet was signed agreeing to changing the monel metal gauze to 160 mesh. The reason for this was because the monel metal cloth filters were very difficult to clean. We have always looked upon the filter in the tank as being the most important petrol filter. We do not have trouble with stopped jets on experimental cars. Our impression is that it is a complaint confined to new cars. We believe foreign matter is built up with the car which causes most of the trouble, and although the filter may be cleaned, it is no guarantee that the fault has been cleared. The material which causes most trouble in the petrol system is - fluff, fine strands of cotton or hairs. These are liable to float about in the system and cause no end of trouble. For instance, if the float chamber of the carburetter is cleaned out with waste or rag, it is probable that more harm will result than before it was touched. We have tried numerous arrangements of filters in the carburetter and we cannot say on any experimental cars that we have found any difference. The arrangments have been :- contd:- | ||
