F.{Mr Friese} Dodd. WHAT IS THE CHASSIS POSITION? Re Phantom III Long Wheelbase Enclosed Limousine, 38-EX. Messrs. Park Ward & Co. have been able to make the bottom sides suitable for our scheme of flotex body mounting shown on LeC.5102. Will you please arrange for the suitable body brackets to be fitted. We have arranged with Messrs. Park Ward & Co. to provide tubular distance pieces in the box section bottom side in the correct position for the bolts to the flotex bushes. Since, however, the final positioning of the body will be determined by the rear wheel clearance and the matching up of the bonnet and the scuttle, we suggest that in this case the body brackets be fitted to the chassis, but that the flotex bushes be marked off in position from the body, and the body brackets drilled to suit. When, if ever, this scheme becomes standard it will be arranged for the steel bodies to have solid aluminium distance pieces in the bottom side so that the bodies can be marked off from the flotex bushes on the chassis, and drilled in position. With this scheme of body mounting the standard scuttle isolation scheme is used, and also the transverse stays for the second cross member. We shall be sending you a scheme showing the length of these stays, in a day or two. The standard ones will not do as the chassis is 6 ins. longer than standard.
