WATFORD MAGNETO NO.94201 with ENCLOSED ARMATURE TUNNEL.

We confirm that it would be desirable from our point of view for Messrs. North to continue with the production of the three further Watford EO6 magnetos with enclosed armature tunnel, similar in that respect to magneto No.94201 which we have already received and which is now on experimental chassis 10-EX.

Unfortunately this machine has not done much running on a car. The car to which it is fitted is at present at the coachbuilders and we have not even yet had an experimental report of the silence. We had a verbal report from Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} which is contained in my assistant's report WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell}121, copy herewith.

One good reason for having further magnetos of this type is the fact that the magneto already received has not only the enclosed armature tunnel but has all-bakelite gears. From a scientific point of view it has been wrong that there should have been the two alterations in the one machine, when what we are really after is the suppression of the sleeve noise. It will be agreed that whereas the armature tunnel is a comparatively minor modification from the point of view of the durability of the machine and would therefore not necessarily have to run 10,000 miles, the modification of the all-bakelite gears is one which may affect the durability of the machine, and for which the machine
