It should be understood that the system of holding conferences at Derby at intervals of a fortnight or three weeks, which was in vogue a year ago, has only temporarily been suspended for the reason that since the end of October last, Mr.Wormald, Mr.Bailey, Mr.Hives and others have been deeply engaged upon a problem - delay in the solution of which might cost the Company as much as £2000 a week.

It is felt therefore that it would be wrong to hold conferences without the presence of these gentlemen and equally wrong to hold conferences which would occupy the time of these gentlemen, seeing that their time had to be devoted to the solution xxxx above referred to. When this matter has been cleared off, the conferences will be resumed.

It should be borne in mind that the administration could not contribute towards the solution of the problem seeing that it was an entirely technical matter.
