Ho. X8430 PN{Mr Northey}4/DN21.5.26. TO EHT [Strikethrough] c. to BJ " " Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " " BY FROM PN{Mr Northey} PHANTOM STEERING. Referring to BJ7/M19.5.26, our urgent consideration is in respect of about 40 Phantoms which are waiting to be delivered to certain destinations abroad and which at present have the original type of Phantom steering. I understand that it is proposed to deal with these by fitting three independent modifications: (a) Fit lighter springs to the side steering-tube. (b) Fit an intermediate ratio of worm and nut of .940 lead. (c) Additional steering-rod tie or support by means of tubes. We do not appear to have been given the cost of carrying out each of these modifications to the chassis where they are standing at the present time. We have been given an estimate of the cost of item (b), i.e., £17.17.6. The cost of item (a) will be obviously small, but it is important that we should have figures in respect of (a) and (c) as quickly as possible. Will you please look into this and let us have the information at the earliest moment. I conclude that the amount of £17.17.6. in respect of the item (b) has been arrived at after crediting the steering-column and other parts, which will be useful again. P.N. | ||
