To Sg.{Arthur F. ENGINE BOOMS. With reference to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}2/E17.12.30 You are correct in assuming that this engine mounting is the one for which we have only a temporary scheme. We took a car fitted with this actual scheme down to R.{Sir Henry Royce} on our last visit to impress him that we wanted some more complete design. He seemed very keen to give us this, and we talked over how it should be done. We had to indicate to R.{Sir Henry Royce} that whereas the engine mounting could be altered to give a desired result it was a delicate thing to attack because a mounting which is quite good for engine booms very often is bad for torque re-action and steering. For this reason we have been concentrating our efforts on eliminating the boom at this source, i.e. crankshaft and flywheel vibrations and the exhaust system. We believe that after Christmas we shall be in a position to demonstrate to you what progress we have made, and are suggesting that we use GLN-60 for the purpose.
