Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}5/H18.1.24. re. E.O.6 Magneto Failure. We are returning to you Magneto No.56915, which we had to replace on a customers car (Mr. Gibbons, Nottingham 1-HG) who recently complained that the advance and retard mechanism had seized up. On dismantling, we found this was due to the sleeve of the cam box seizing on its spigot. We have had three similar troubles and complaints, but this is the first one we have been able to investigate personally. We are returning the parts to you so that you can see the condition of the surfaces in question which have galled, as we feel this is a question which must be taken up with the makers. You will notice that the surface is somewhat contaminated with carbon dust, which we have left just as taken off for your inspection. We also wish to bring to your attention a further case of galling which we have also experienced with the damping device to the sleeve mechanism. This takes place between the brass spring and the slippering end of the sleeves, which you will note also appears to be in rather a poor condition. We have put the parts together temporarily. Will you please instruct for a new magneto to be supplied to us to replace this one, so that we shall be square with our cars on test. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
