(2) Carburetter with detachable chokes to be fitted, experiment by 1 5/8 dia. or further machining out others to 1.7/16 and 1 1/2 dia. in endeavour to bring down the depression from existing 5" to 2 - 2.5 INS. Hg. Effect of removing air intake bend to be tried. (3) If successful efforts to be made to see if metering can be made reasonable with opened up carburetter. (4) Ignition characteristic to give no detonations at low speeds, full throttle and max. power at higher speeds, curves to give - (a) Min. advance for max. power. (b) Non detonating line and power drop to do so. (c) Curve as given by modified governor springs. Above to be done with Shell No.1. (d) In trying to give the required curve it should be remembered that the lower the speed the governor starts, the more retard can be the static setting with consequent improvement in slow running. (5) The camshaft has long toes to suit stopping off auto adjusting tappets, at the same time experiments are being made to investigate wear on bottom tappets and arrangements are - A. {Mr Adams} side has not got bottom tappet return springs. B. side standard springs. A. {Mr Adams} and B. side Nos.1, 4, 5 & 6 cylinder exhaust tappets are standard Fescolised. Remaining tappets S/ZN. cloudburst hardened. All inlet tappets are running with .006" warm setting. Nos.1 & 2 A. {Mr Adams} & B. exhaust have .008 clearance. continued. | ||
