-2- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}2/AP.24.11.36. Nos. 3 & 4 A & B. exhaust have .010 clearance. Nos. 5 & 6 A & B. " " .012 " In conjunction with the KE.965 exhaust valves we should from the above know how much clearance is necessary to prevent worn bottom tappets and calculate proportionate clearance that would be required for S/SLV. exhaust valves. PHANTOM III.No.6. This unit will shortly be ready for endurance on bearings 3.A.C.1. and 3 R.R.56 big ends. A.C.7. main bearings and R.R.56. shims. We have instructed for 8 Hykro tappets to be fitted in this unit, that is 2 complete blocks, one to be run with silent tappets in action and the other out of action by removing tappet plunger spring, the tappets then being set at .006 and .008 clearance. Irrespective of how far we have got with the programme on No.8., No.6. should be put on the bed to get some experience on the bearings. BENTLEY BED C.15. now on the bed with two inlet cam camshaft to be checked for slow running and power with - (a) standard head. (b) Head with 1.4 dia. exhaust valves. (c) Valve temperature comparisons with (a) and (b) B.3. This unit now being assembled for endurance as follows:- (1) Existing RR.56. big end bearings and shims. (2) " " rear main " " (3) New R.R. W/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} remaining main bearings. RR.56. liners. B.17. Now in Shop for inspection following test on Eleven H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} main bearings. Other parts being O.K. to be rebuilt with main bearings in Z.3. W/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} with RR.56. liners for further endurance. ---------------- continued. | ||
